About Chaya, Connecticut Newborn & Family Photographer

Portrait of Chaya Miller, Portraits by Chaya owner

Meet Chaya

Connecticut Luxury Newborn and Family Photographer.

As a mom of five, I know firsthand just how quickly children grow and change.

The stages that feel like they'll last forever somehow pass in the blink of an eye. That is one of the reasons I love what I do so much. I get to preserve these fleeting moments for families—and then, year after year, I get to watch those families grow.

There is something incredibly special about photographing a newborn and then seeing that same child return for their first birthday, family portraits, and all the milestones that follow.

These aren't just photographs to me. They're pieces of your family's story.

Why I believe these moments matter

The days, months, and years go by far too quickly. As a mother, I understand how easy it is to get caught up in the beautiful chaos of everyday life. Children are constantly growing, changing, and reaching new stages—and before we know it, the little details we thought we'd always remember become memories. Photography gives us a way to pause time. I love capturing the connection, personalities, and little moments that make your family uniquely yours. And one of my favorite parts of this work is getting to watch my clients' families continue to grow over the years.

An Experience Designed Around You

I believe your portrait session should be something you genuinely enjoy—not another appointment you have to prepare for, coordinate, and worry about.

From the moment you book, my goal is to take as much off your plate as possible. I'll guide you through wardrobe, styling, and all the details that go into creating your session. Mom can enjoy professional hair and makeup artistry, and once you arrive at the studio, there is no rushing through the experience.

My sessions are intentionally unhurried, with unlimited time to allow everyone to settle in, connect, and simply be themselves.

From the coffee and snacks waiting for you to the comfortable studio environment and the thoughtful details throughout your session, I want everything to feel effortless.

You don't have to figure it all out. I've got you.

The Details Matter

I put my absolute all into every session—from the first planning conversation to the very last detail.

I am a perfectionist by nature, for better or worse, and I think my clients would tell you that I don't stop until I know I've given them my very best.

I love the creative process just as much as the photography itself. I'll thoughtfully plan your color palette, help choose the perfect wardrobe, customize a set, or even shop for something special when I know it will bring your vision together.

I want every detail to feel intentional and every final portrait to be something you are genuinely excited to have in your home.

For me, this isn't about simply showing up, taking beautiful photographs, and sending you a gallery.

I want the experience and the finished portraits to feel every moment that you invested in it.

Because Your Photographs Belong in Your Home

As a mom, there is something incredibly grounding about seeing photographs of my children on the walls of our home.

In the middle of busy mornings, evening routines, and all of the beautiful chaos that comes with raising a family, those photographs remind me of what I'm doing it all for. They bring me back to the love we have for one another and give me a moment to pause and appreciate these little people who are growing up far too quickly.

I also believe photographs can be meaningful for children themselves. My children love seeing photographs of themselves around our home. There is something powerful about growing up surrounded by visual reminders that you are loved, valued, and an important part of your family.

That is one of the reasons I believe so strongly in creating artwork for your home—not simply delivering digital files.

I want your portraits to become part of your family's everyday life, something you see and enjoy now and something your children can look back on for years to come.

Photographs Meant to Be Held Onto

We live in a world where thousands of photographs can sit on a phone or hard drive and never actually become part of our lives.

I've had clients reach out to me years later because their images were lost and they never had anything printed. It's heartbreaking to know that beautiful memories existed, but were never turned into something they could enjoy.

That's why I believe so strongly in a full-service approach.

Your photographs shouldn't disappear into a digital folder. They should become part of your home and your family's story.

From heirloom albums to beautiful wall art and printed keepsakes, I want you to have photographs you can hold, display, revisit, and eventually pass down.

I hope that someday, your children will look through their albums and see their portraits on your walls and know, without a doubt, that they were loved from the very beginning.

That is what an heirloom means to me.

A Little About My Background

Photography has been part of my life for many years, and I've been photographing professionally since 2019.

I hold a Master's degree in Speech and Communication and spent 10 years working primarily in public school settings. My background gave me a strong foundation in communication and a deep understanding of working with children and families.

That experience has become an important part of the way I approach every session. I know that every child has a different personality, temperament, and comfort level, and I understand the importance of patience, flexibility, and genuine connection.

Today, I bring that experience together with my love of photography to create an environment where families can relax, enjoy the experience, and simply be themselves.

Beyond the Studio

When I'm not behind the camera, I'm usually somewhere in the middle of life with my five children- and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm a complete coffee addict, a lover of shopping and interior design, and someone who can spend far too much time thinking about colors, textures, and beautiful spaces. In another life, I probably would have gone into interior design.

I'm also completely baby obsessed and genuinely love working with children of all ages. Most of all, I love people. Getting to know my clients and watching their families grow has become one of the most rewarding parts of this business.

And yes, I'm quite the perfectionist—for better or worse—which happens to be a pretty useful quality when you're creating portraits that need to be just right.
