Sometimes, the inspiration for a portrait session begins with one beautiful outfit.
For this holiday session, Mom had found an exquisite outfit for her daughter and came to me with a vision: could we create a festive nighttime scene for her portraits? I loved the idea and was excited to help bring it to life.
Collaborating with families in this way is one of my favorite parts of creating custom portraits. An outfit, a color palette, or a scene you’ve imagined can become the starting point for something wonderfully personal.
Together, we selected digital backdrops to complement her vision. Through careful editing and compositing in Photoshop, photographs from the session became richly detailed Christmas portraits with a storybook feel.
Creating this kind of artwork takes attention to how the photograph and setting work together. The light, color, and proportions all contribute to making the finished scene feel cohesive.
Seeing Mom’s excitement at the results made the time spent on those details especially rewarding.
Alongside the more elaborate fine art images, we created simpler Christmas portraits using seamless backgrounds and a natural room setting.
That variety gave the gallery a beautiful balance, with imaginative holiday scenes alongside understated portraits that kept the attention on the people in them.
With a custom child and family portrait session, we can discuss the different looks you love and plan how to bring them together.
As we plan your portraits, we can also consider how you would like to enjoy them. A favorite holiday image might become a framed piece you bring out each winter, while an album can hold a fuller collection from your session.
I offer custom wall art, heirloom albums, and fine-art prints, with guidance in choosing the images and presentation that suit your home.
My studio is based in Waterbury, Connecticut, welcoming families from New Haven County, Fairfield County, and surrounding communities.
