Topsmead State Forest in Litchfield, Connecticut

Turning two is most definitely a reason to celebrate! There is still so much baby sweetness at this age, alongside a growing sense of independence and curiosity. A birthday portrait session is a chance to remember all of it: the little expressions, the excitement of exploring, and the way a favorite teddy bear fits into those small arms.

For Legacy's second birthday, we headed to Topsmead State Forest in Litchfield, Connecticut, for a summer session filled with play. He was so much fun to photograph, and giving him things to do allowed his personality to come through.

A Little Adventure at Topsmead

A vintage-style white ride-on car, a large white balloon, and a teddy bear helped bring Legacy's birthday portraits together. The car gave him something to explore, while the teddy bear made its way into some especially sweet photographs. Simple cream clothing and white props kept the colors soft against the greenery.

We moved between different areas of the grounds, using tree-lined paths, garden steps, and the house as settings for his portraits. The gallery includes running, teddy-bear hugs, and quieter moments, finishing with that beautiful golden-hour light in the field. That variety helps tell the story of a child at this age.

What If My Toddler Will Not Sit Still?

They do not have to! When I photograph young children, I make room for movement and curiosity. A little walk, a playful activity, or something interesting to hold can give us much more than asking for the same smile again and again.

Legacy's session is a lovely example of how play and carefully composed portraits can work together. There is room for both the joyful energy and the quieter expressions you know so well. My goal is to create photographs that feel like your child, with gentle guidance along the way.
