There is nothing more cherubic looking than a smiling newborn image. Capturing newborn smiles during their session sometimes feels like winning the lottery. Parents and grandparents alike absolutely love the smiling image of their precious little ones.

The newborn smiles are often fleeting and can be difficult to catch if you do not know what to look out for. Here are some things to note regarding newborn smiles and when to expect them!

Newborns typically smile while they are sleeping. When in a deeper state of sleep, the baby may make rapid eye movements that are noticeable to parents and others. It is often during this state of sleep that the newborn baby will smile.

I always have my camera at the ready with the newborns because you never really know when the smile will come, sometimes when you least expect it to! I have had babies who are awake and smile as well.

Just as every baby is unique, every newborn's smile is a bit different too! Some babies will give us a soft smile, while others an ear-to-ear grin.
